Save HMV Nuneaton

The Issue

As you many be aware, our local HMV store will be closing down on January 25th. Why? Another shop in town, Bodycare, have sought out the shop unit to open a new store. They have offered the council more rent than HMV is paid, allowing them to buy the rights to the shop.

Based on average shop statistics, HMV receives more customers and sales than Bodycare. Perhaps Bodycare want to have a larger customer intake.

HMV is a very popular store, especially during the holiday season. It provides access to a wide range of music, films, and television programmes on DVD, Blu-Ray, CD and Vinyl. Whilst the digital world is vastly growing, there are many people who benefit from using physical copies.

Meanwhile, Bodycare sells a range of toiletries and make-up products, but does not have a customer intake as high as HMV.

Bodycare wants to open an additional store, where HMV is currently located. They don't need another shop. If they believe that they're going to get more customers by having a shop in a more prominent location, they'll find that they were wrong. Customer intake is based on the products sold by the company. Not by location.

Would the people of Nuneaton profit from another health care and beauty shop, or would they profit from keeping a shop that sells for all demographics?

HMV does not need to close down. Yet the public's voice is not heard by the council. It would be useful to see how many people would like HMV to remain in our town. How many profit from the store? The larger the number, the greater the chance of keeping the store. If enough voices are heard, then maybe, just maybe, the council will revoke Bodycare's promise of more rent and keep HMV in town.
