The issue

The NSW government has removed road side warning signs at mobile speed cameras without any consultation or warning to the general public. Mobile speed cameras were introduced to slow people down at known black spots and an important part of this strategy includes warning signs at mobile camera locations for instantaneous easing of traffic speed.

Now that the cameras and revenue are managed by a third party (Macquarie bank)  the NSW government have abolished the warning signs In an obvious reallocation of revenue with no mention of how the science has changed other than the statement on transport for NSW website As follows  (https://roadsafety.transport.nsw.gov.au/speeding/speedcameras/mobile-speed-cameras.html#faq3 -  Research shows that to generate an anywhere-anytime expectation of detection, mobile speed camera operations should not be highly visible. This means operating without warning signs, and without easily recognisable vehicles. This prevents drivers from being able to choose to comply with speed limits only at camera locations, while speeding across the rest of the network. NSW uses this approach to maximise deterrence of speeding behaviour and reduce speed-related road trauma across the entire road network, which is in line with current practice in other Australian jurisdictions.

If this ‘research’ and science applies to road side cameras it must surely apply to school zones as well and we all know how ridiculous it would be to remove school zone warning signs.

We are the people and we are the government. Our government representatives are there to represent our wants and interests and are not there to serve as state land lords. By signing this petition you are standing up against an obvious cash grab and another measure that our elected representatives have applied to diminish our rights and privileges one chain link at a time.
