Demand a rank and file ballot for NSW Labor Leadership
Demand a rank and file ballot for NSW Labor Leadership
Why this petition matters
Jodi McKay was the first NSW Labor leader to be elected by both the rank and file and parliamentary caucus.
She won 63 per cent of the membership vote and was supported by 58 per cent of the caucus.
Last week she was forced out by a small group who never accepted the results and undermined her from day one.
We can’t change what happened.
But we can make sure it never happens again.
We know head office wants to avoid a ballot.
That’s code for you not having your say.
And it sets a precedent that the next leader can be executed in the same way.
A rank and file ballot says that treachery should never be rewarded.
That leaders should be elected by members.
And that power in the party should be in the hands of the many, not the few.
If you agree, please sign the petition to demand a rank and file ballot.
