Say NO to the wage freeze for nurses and midwives in NSW

Say NO to the wage freeze for nurses and midwives in NSW
The issue
For the past nine years, the NSW government has limited pay rises for nurses and midwives to 2.5% per annum. This year it is threatening a wage freeze with NO pay rise for nurses and midwives.
Nurses have been at the frontline of the COVID crisis, sacrificing their own health and wellbeing, and that of their families, to care for vulnerable and unwell people. And this is the thanks they get. Outrageous!
Even prior to the COVID crisis, economists have been saying that low wages in Australia restricts economic growth. The NSW government cap on wages rises has affected workers across the public sector. This has had a flow-on effect to the private sector and has kept wage growth in Australia suppressed.
To freeze wages now not only shows lack of appreciation to nurses and midwives, it is detrimental to economic recovery.
