Allambie Heights, NSW – Allambie Heights Village Ltd, a not‑for‑profit provider of aged care, retirement living and affordable housing, is sounding the alarm over extraordinary rent increases imposed by the NSW Government on our three Crown Land leases.

The increases are nothing short of shocking: 465%, 5,278%, and 6,234%.

These hikes come from a government that publicly champions renters’ rights and caps excessive rent increases for private landlords—yet appears willing to exempt itself from those same principles. At a time when governments across Australia are calling for better, more sustainable aged‑care solutions, this policy sends a deeply contradictory and troubling message.

If these increases were passed on to residents, many of whom survive on the age pension, their weekly fees would rise by $70 per week. For people already living carefully within tight budgets, this is not a minor adjustment—it is a devastating blow. It threatens financial security, peace of mind, and the ability to age with dignity.

We have worked in good faith alongside Ageing Australia to seek a fair and reasonable outcome. Despite repeated attempts, our requests for meetings with Minister Kamper and Premier Minns have been refused. Crown Lands has also been dismissive of our concerns, leaving us with no meaningful avenue for dialogue.

Our residents are not investors or speculators. They are older Australians who built their lives in this community and now simply want stability, safety, and fairness. As a not‑for‑profit organisation, we exist to serve them—not to absorb punitive and unexplained government cost increases.

We are calling on the NSW Government to reconsider its position and come to the table. Constructive, genuine dialogue is urgently needed to ensure the long‑term sustainability of our housing and care services—and to protect residents from financial harm they cannot afford.

Our community deserves better.
