Reduce the sentencing of Pio “YP” Misa

Reduce the sentencing of Pio “YP” Misa
Why this petition matters
Rapper Pio Misa, 19, who is known as YP, was jailed over several charges including reckless grievous bodily harm after a violent stoush at the Carousel Inn at Rooty Hill in July 2018.
The Sydney District Court heard Misa was with a group of young men when they became involved in an argument with two other men in the pub's pokies room.
The court heard Misa pulled a chair leg out from under his clothes and hit one of the men, Anthony Hayward, twice in the back of the head.
Mr Hayward backed away before Misa hit him for a third time.
In sentencing, Justice James Bennett described the back and forth between the two groups as "racial comments, perhaps extending to slurs".
Now while Justice James Bennett had seen that Misa showed great remorse within his actions, he decided that his actions were too vicious and needed to be rehabilitated sentencing him to 4 years imprisonment with a non parole period of 2 years, making him eligible in December 2021.
Pio “YP” Misa is a 19 year old, who although shown great remorse, was still stung with a hefty and unjustified sentence for the crime he committed. He is one of five members to make up the Mount Druitt hip-hop group OneFour and despite his involvement in this situation, he has strived, succeeded and was on his way to fame with his four co-artists. Touring along side his group with multiple sold out shows Nation wide, impacting the youth in a positive aspect, “YP” was willing and able to turn his life around since this crime took place and I believe that Justice James Bennett was harsh in handing down the sentence to Misa.
