We, the students of the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), respectfully petition the Nevada Board of Regents to implement Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grading for all NSHE institutions during the COVID Pandemic until they have returned to traditional operating means.

The COVID-19 pandemic, has significantly impacted the lives of many of us students during our tenure as college students. We have lost jobs, family members, friends, and much more. These losses have aided in a struggle to maintain decent grades on the current and traditional grading system.

We are currently not living in traditional times. Therefore, NSHE institutions should not be operating solely on a traditional grading system. If students have the option to attend class on a Hybrid system, students should have the opportunity to choose whether they’d like satisfactory/unsatisfactory grading or to maintain a traditional grading system for each of their individual classes.

As the positive COVID-19 numbers in Nevada continue to rise, more university services and classes continue to change. Changes that come unexpectedly to students. Students didn’t ask or anticipate these changes.

Therefore, we the Students of the Nevada System of Higher Education respectfully request the Nevada Board of Regents to reconsider a Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grading system at their December 2020 quarterly meeting.
