Congressional debate has given me a chance to speak on issues I truly care about and develop as a person. However, inequities are rampant in this event. I believe these three changes will ensure fairness. 

One, there will be no hard stops. Instead, all speakers will be able to give two speeches, not more nor less, in a session. Congress is the one debate event that can be decided by luck not skill. Many students work or crowdsource to be able to compete at expensive tournaments. All competitors deserve the chance to actually compete not just sit in a chamber and watch as they lose without even being given the chance to try.

Two, tournaments shall only release two bills for every three-hour session. Large legislation packets give an advantage to students from large schools able to prep together. They also disadvantage students who are not included in group chats before a tournament. 

I will send this petition to the directors of every major national tournament as well as the National Speech and Debate Association. Please send this petition to directors at your local tournaments as well. Debate only gives everyone a voice when it is fair. Spread the word.
