Move the NPT/ENPT transportation hub from Brightside Avenue to an unused location.

The Issue

The NPT/ENPT School district is “temporarily” housing their transportation hub at 19 Brightside Avenue in East Northport. This location is still an operational lumber yard.  When the school board proposed this situation, the neighbors had serious issues, but were assured that the busses would only be located there for a year or so. It would be temporary, until the district found a more permanent home. The neighbors did not push back because the busses needed to be moved from NMS, and we were assured that this location would be temporary.  This location is in a residential neighborhood. Since the district busses have been located on Brightside Avenue there is increased traffic and dangerous conditions such as no turning radius for busses which forces the busses to pull maneuvers in a residential neighborhood and to deviate from their course. There is no traffic light to help the busses to and from larkfield avenue, which causes tremendous traffic. This location is also located near a SCWA well. The property has gravel which allows gas and other fluids from the busses to seep into the ground and into the wells.  As of the 2021/2022 school year there will be 2 vacant school properties with access to house these busses. Bellerose Avenue is one of those locations and is fenced in. This would be an ideal location to remotely house the district busses with less impact to the community. If the district situation was so dire that we needed to close two schools, why are we renting property and planning on expanding a rental property? The financial issues with moving a hydraulic and the contracts will be even more of an expense.   Relocate the district busses to a vacant property.  This will save the district money.
