Soccer season has moved to the winter and our district facilities are inadequate for 4 teams (Varsity/JV Girls/Boys) and the limited daylight of the winter. The School Board needs our support in understanding that Lights are the preferred decision of the Novato Community.

The decision to move soccer to the winter was suspended one year to allow more time for facility accommodations to be made. Much time has been spent and options weighed but still no decision has been made. Putting lights up is the cheapest and fastest solution that can benefit more than just the soccer community. The alternative proposal for turf fields would cost 1.2-1.3 million dollars per site.

Benefits:

Football games could be hosted Friday nights increasing community and school spirit.

Students will miss less class. Games will start later. Soccer games are currently schedule for 3:15 pm, meaning students will miss school for home games and even more for away games
Facility needs will be met  in order to field 4 teams during the winter season
JV teams will exist for soccer! Schools without lights or extra fields can't field JV programs in the winter. This also means more students involved in the extra curricular they love that keep them motivated.
It is the cheapest solution, less tax dollars spent on sports, more to spend on education programs and classrooms (like STEM and SMARTT).

I started this petition because I fear that we are missing a great opportunity to do something that can improve our community and the educational experience of our students.
