Factor V Leiden has robbed millions of people around the world of happiness and causing some of those who carry the gene to experience depression and anxiety. Women who are the givers of lives are in particular the most affected through their time of pregnancy and inability to find safe contraceptive methods. Some women have also developed clots on progesterone only birth control. Not every woman is comfortable stopping her monthly period via the use of a contraceptive either. Factor V Leiden is causing us to suffer serious blood clots such as DVT and PE from pregnancy, birth control and long haul flights or immobility. Some women are experiencing reoccurring miscarriage due to clots. In some cases, people are dying from these blood clots.

Women are having to suffer with the use of daily painful injections which result in severe bruising during pregnancy. The cost of these unbearable injections is also expensive so for those who cannot afford treatment, they risk their lives. It’s not a once in a life time payment either. Anti coagulants are used for long haul flights and in treatment to dissolve clots and for those who need long term medication for life. Some people continue to develop clots on anti coagulants and the risk of bleeding is higher with this form of medication. That makes situations such as surgery and labour more challenging or stressful as it requires more care. The gene is unpredictable in being passed down to children. We long and hope for a cure from Factor V Leiden so that we can enjoy our lives freely and normally just like the rest of the population.

This petition has been created to express the damage Factor V Leiden has had on our lives and our future and to request scientists and those working in the development and production of genetic therapy to help us by working on a cure. We desperately need a cure and hope that genetic therapy will be developed and available to us in the near future. A cure like this is something we would be forever grateful for.
