Tana Kellogg is Failing Notus School District Students and Staff
Superintendent/Secondary Principal Tana Kellogg is failing Notus School District. She is abusing her position of power and is irreparably hurting more people than she will ever know. The Notus School District needs school leaders that will stand up and perform their job duties meritoriously. Therefore, we ask for the removal of Superintendent/Secondary Principal Tana Kellogg.
Superintendent/Secondary Principal Tana Kellogg demonstrates a lack of concern for the well-being of students, parents, and staff of Notus School District and community. Following are a few examples of the damage she has caused.
1.) Our district has lost many valuable teachers, staff, students and families due to her intransigence. Our district has suffered a staggering 29% decrease in enrollment since the beginning of Tana Kellogg’s time at Notus School District. Historical enrollment for the Elementary School was 215 in 2019, 195 in 2020, and currently 149 in 2021. That is a 31% decrease. The Secondary Jr/Sr High School historical enrollments were 214 in 2019, 206 in 2020, and currently 157 in 2021. That is a 27% decrease. With drastically low enrollment numbers, Tana Kellogg refuses to allow any new or returning (students that opted to seek education elsewhere during the school closure) out of district open enrollment students into Notus School District. Students that have siblings currently attending Notus School District have been told no, with no regard to the hardship it causes families. Our District relies heavily on those open enrollment students to maintain the funding from the State to run our schools. Without those students, our schools are facing devastating shortages in ADA money.
2.) Exceptional staff members (teachers, maintenance staff, custodial staff, cafeteria staff, bus drivers, coaches, classified staff) have also left the district because they have not been able to perform their jobs fully due to the lack of support and/or they cannot tolerate the manipulative power hunger from Tana Kellogg. She disregards what is best for the district as she executes her own agenda. Necessary supplies and requests have fallen on deaf ears and have been denied by Tana Kellogg with no good explanation given. Student organizations such as Cheer, Football, FFA, and ACA DECA, to name a few, have worked hard to raise money for their respective programs and have been denied over and over again to spend their own money on items needed with no reason given. Teachers continue to purchase their own supplies for the classrooms because they have been denied allocated monies for such items.
3.) The district purchased many new Chromebooks in 2019-2020 to replace old failing laptops and Tana Kellogg refused to allow the District Technology Coordinator to circulate them into use during a time when our students and teachers needed them most. Students were expected to use computers that did not work properly. Many families had to dig deep into their own pockets to purchase some sort of computer so that their students could complete their assignments and not fall behind.
4.) Elective classes have been drastically cut, forcing students to take unwanted classes. Student schedules were changed, with no notice to students or parents, after families had met with the prior Jr/Sr. High Counselor to confirm student classes for the following year. Students wanting to broaden their learning beyond the doors of Notus School District have been denied the opportunity to take classes through IDLA. Every student is given over $1000, from Advanced Opportunities, to pay for classes through IDLA, yet Tana Kellogg refuses to allow it. Our students are being denied access to other options and avenues of learning.
5.) The Administration of a School District includes, but is not limited to, Superintendent, Secondary Principal, Elementary Principal, and department heads and all should work harmoniously together for the benefit of our students. Tana Kellogg has made it clear, by her actions, that the Notus School District will be lead by one individual, and that would be herself.
The Notus School District Patrons can no longer trust that the district’s leadership will act in the best interest of our students and staff. This has to stop!
We, the undersigned concerned citizens of Notus School District, hold that Tana Kellogg is failing our community as a leader of our education system. We ask that the Notus School District Board Members do the job they were elected to do and take the first step toward making a change in our district. It is time people rise up and say, “Enough!” Tana Kellogg has done enough damage to our students, our parents, our staff, and our schools. We have lost all confidence in Tana Kellogg and we ask that you stand up and hear our voice as we the people of Notus School District request the removal of Tana Kellogg as Superintendent/Secondary Principal of Notus School District.
