Reduce the speed limit on the A612 Lowdham to Thurgarton - before it’s too late!

Reduce the speed limit on the A612 Lowdham to Thurgarton - before it’s too late!

The Issue

Reduce the speed limit on A612 between Lowdham and Thurgarton to 40mph.

Whilst a new lower speed limit has been introduced on the A612 where it passes through Thurgarton, this does not go far enough.

Upon leaving Lowdham and its 30mph limit, heading east towards Southwell, the speed limit increases to 60mph and the road instantly becomes a racetrack.  John Harrison Garage is immediately on the right hand side, and Gonalston Farm Shop (GFS) a very short distance further on the left.  The small amount of central hatching outside GFS does not slow the traffic down enough.

Customers to GFS and Gonalston village indicate left, but vehicles behind them are beginning to travel fast by this point and frequently cross the hatched area in the centre of the road.

Customers leaving GFS (turning right towards Lowdham) have a good view to the right, but not to the left with traffic approaching fast off the bend. They are often ‘hooted’ as they pull into the road.

The Hoveringham to Gonalston crossroad falls where the road is at its fastest. Turning off the main road from either direction is extremely dangerous – motorists often ignore the double white lines and hatching in the road, and overtake regardless.

This stretch of road is unfortunately too fast for the volume of traffic now using it, and particularly dangerous for motorists needing to pull both off and on to the A612.

I would be grateful for your support in reducing the speed limit BEFORE a fatal accident occurs.
