Rural Rides were free guided bicycle rides in Nottinghamshire - they were enjoyed by a great many people and were known for inspiring rides, showcasing new routes and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere . The Rides were led by volunteers and the program was given the necessary organisation, support and publicity by Notts County Council - the cost was minimal, but Rural Rides were axed in the 2010 cuts. 

At the time this seemed a poor decision, and now seems even more ill-conceived: Bicycle use in Nottinghamshire remains far lower than it could be. Foremost in the public eye is the very pressing issue of Climate Change: zero-carbon transport such as bicycle use needs to be encouraged in every way possible - Rural Rides is a low cost and highly effective way of supporting Bicycle Use in our County.
