REINSTATE NOTTINGHAM'S RAILWAYS REMEMBERED'S GROUP VISITS INTO THURLAND STREET TUNNEL!
My name is Janine Tanner, I am a historian in Nottingham and I am doing my bit to preserve our city's history, and educate people on Nottingham's hidden and forgotten past. In 2016 I applied to the City Council to be allowed to organise group visits to a railway tunnel which resides underneath the Victoria Shopping Centre, a tunnel which was once part of the Great Central Railway and Nottingham Victoria Station, which was demolished in 1968. I have already done an exhibition for our lost station, and unveiled a memorial plaque on the Clock Tower in 2017. The council were very unapproachable, and wanted me to get public liability insurance, first aiders, confined space trained people, full PPE etc, all of which cost money, but I was determined so I did EVERYTHING they asked of me, until they had no choice but to allow access.
However, after just 3 group visits, they suddenly stopped our access in 2018, and despite a 3 year battle with them, including our offer to PAY £1000 a year to the council in return for 4 group visits per year, they have refused point blank to reinstate the visits, and have now told me to stop asking for access. All I want is to show people our beautiful history, can you help?
