To allow student drivers with parking passes to park in the closest lot to school.
The Norwin Student Parking Lot has become very overflowed with new student drivers as the winter season has approached. When there is not enough spots to park, students are forced to park their car down by the softball field, which is the opposite side of the entrance to Norwin High School. The lot to the right of the student lot is reserved for teachers only, although many teachers park around the perimeter of the school. The “Teacher” lot has seventy-seven free parking spaces available plus or minus a few depending on certain circumstances. Opening the teacher lot available spaces to student drivers not only makes it more convenient for student drivers but it will also be of convenience to parking pass officers not having to walk to the near end of the lot to check for student parking passes since the overflow takes up the spaces the whole way back. Analyzing the Student Parking Procedure PDF posted to Norwin School District, staff has 5 designated parking areas versus the two students have, even though the students outnumber the staff. If students, according to the Parking Procedure PDF, are supposed to arrive all at 7:10 a.m to park, how is it possible for students to park in ten minutes, when everyone is arriving at the same time and make it to their first period classroom by 7:20 a.m? Also, not to mention, teachers do not enter the school when we do and do not leave the school when we do so there would be no traffic with teacher and student cars. We the students advocate to have the ability to park in the lot in the front of the school for teachers that has approximately 77 parking spaces available on any given day.
