Norwalk Hybrid and Remote learning goes on for about 7 hours with 80 minute classes. Plus homework students on spend about 9-10 hours looking at computer screen. These classes are being extended to 85 minutes on November 18. This time should be shorten significantly due to the unfairness it has on both teachers and students. I’d say to have each class be 45 minutes long at minimum but these long hours have to stop. When school was in person it made sense considering no one was starring at a computer screen this long. Now most students are though both in person and remotely. Hence why just like we adapted with hybrid and remote learning. We most adjust our school hours. Students are meant to keep focus while online learning staring at there computers for about 8 hours. This resolves in straining of vision, and students become tired or distraught. Considering the difficulty online learning already brings. While teachers are still adapting to both in person and remote students which is double the work. For there pay it isn’t fair on them. Plus teaching students online doesn’t give them freedom to ask questions. Making teachers go through more work which most students are overwhelmed with. I care about this because a lot of us feel suffocated by the eminence amount of work which we get. We finish a pile of work and more just gets added. Some friends in other states get a later start to school and leave school earlier. It’s the same 4 blocks a day but each class is 45 minutes so that the teachers can focus in one thing. So students manage less work and have more time to process through the information and hw on there own time. Over all this petition is meant to help students be less stressed during this already difficult time.
