It's hard to complain about a fire truck, something so needed in a town of 75,000. But I saw the one pictured above driving around town today. I had to wonder what that painful job cost was and why supporting children unhoused through less public actions like capital improvements at public schools or wraparound family support for families with needs in town.
From Gemini:
In short, the cost of a fire truck to a department depends on many factors. For instance, a tractor-drawn ladder truck with a 100+ foot aerial device can cost well over $1 million. However, a new fire engine could cost between $200,000 and $1 million.
(This specific truck and the paint job were made possible by an $800,000 gift.)
Also, I learned today about Northwestern's partnership with the local private school, Beacon College Prep Academy. I will try to understand what this is, how it works, and why a private school with considerable resources already exists.
