NSU to mandate a pass/fail grading scale for the fall 2020 semester

NSU to mandate a pass/fail grading scale for the fall 2020 semester
The Issue
This semester, no doubt, has been one of the toughest semesters for college students across America.
We have seen a movement for OSU to move to a pass/fail grading scale over the typical GPA/4.0 grading scale due to mental health issues, uncertainty with softwares, media issues, and not being transparent with COVID-19 related setbacks.
We would now like for NSU to understand the hardships it’s students are facing and push for the personal option for students to choose between pass/no pass grading scale or standard 4.0 GPA grading scale for the fall semester of 2020.
*It was brought to attention that a P/NP grading scale option was available for the spring 2020 semester for transitions into online learning, therefore we know it is completely doable.*
Having a pass/fail option would allow students to keep credit hours and have less stress about having a “bad semester”.
Many students in sports, clubs, Greek life, and other campus organizations have been forced to quarantine and/or leave campus due to COVID-19. It is prevalent that making students continue classes on an online setting has been detrimental to grades, mental and social health, and much, much more. We NEED to have the option of a pass/fail grading scale to keep the University running.
If students’ grades drop below they can be put on academic probation and lose things such as scholarships or financial aid services. We should not have to fear losing our place in college because of a pandemic.
Spread the word and encourage others to voice their struggles and stories. Please sign and share! Thank you!!
