Hemp Farm Smell

Hemp Farm Smell
Many of us living in North Kingstown, Saunderstown, and Exeter (RI) have been recently bothered by the pungent smell produced by the Sodco turf farm as they farmed and harvested their first crop of hemp. As the crop rotates and production increases, many of us fear this will only get worse with time.
The smell has affected the quality of life for many living in the surrounding neighborhoods. It has been noticeable for miles. Young kids do not enjoy playing outside. We feel the need to keep our windows shut and doors closed to avoid the odor. Some have complained of worsening allergies. There is a great concern that, without regulation, this will begin to seriously affect property values in the area (if it has not started already).
We would like to petition our local and state leaders to regulate where this product can be cultivated in regards to neighboring communities. It should not interfere with our quality of life or the value of our homes.
We are hoping to get our voices heard soon. This issue did not exist when we chose to move to this area. This is a new and lucrative endeavor for farmers. This is our chance to enhance regulation. Even if the smell does not currently reach your home, keep in mind this could be an issue for you in the future if you live anywhere near a farm that chooses to start growing hemp.
Please circulate this to any and all that may be interested so we can forward to our representatives.
Thank you.
