Petition for Boat Ramp Parking at Wrightsville Beach Boating Access
The Issue
We, the people, wish to have your help in providing sufficient car parking without trailers at the Wrightsville Beach Boat Access. The kayaking, paddle boarders, and other community members, who do not have a 'trailer' behind their vehicles, have few if any places to park. We wish to utilize the boat ramp along with the trailered boaters.
Long ago, when this ramp was constructed, there were no kayakers or other non-motor boaters in our community. This has changed with more options for water activity, such as SUP and kayaking. As a comparison, when the roads in the area were built, there were no bicycle lanes. Now, they have been added to accommodate this new activity. Now is the time for the additional parking spaces to accommodate the new, large kayaking, paddling, water sports community.
We ask the State of North Carolina to grant the Wildlife Resources Commission the land which is located immediately south of the existing 'trailer only' parking lot and south of the boat tie-down lane, for car parking. This area is already partially paved and could easily handle a row of 20 or so cars facing south. It would not interfere with the existing trees and plants between the bridge road and the existing parking lot.
The Wildlife Resources Commission is already policing this parking lot and could easily handle the small additional area.
