North Carolina: Fund urgent help for the Wake County Animal Center

The Issue

Over 100 animals entered the shelter in just one week. Staff are overwhelmed, kennels are full, and euthanasia is on the table if conditions don’t improve soon.

This isn’t just a shelter problem—it’s a community crisis.

The Center has served Wake County with compassion and dedication, taking in strays, abandoned pets, and animals in need every day.

But without additional support, they simply cannot keep up with the volume. More dogs and cats are being surrendered than adopted, and the resources needed to care for them—space, staff, food, and medical support—are running out fast.

We’re calling on the State of North Carolina and Wake County officials to immediately:

  • Provide emergency funding to relieve overcrowding
  • Expand staffing and veterinary support for animal care
  • Fund community outreach and adoption events to reduce shelter intake
  • Invest in long-term shelter infrastructure and spay/neuter programs

These animals didn’t ask to be abandoned—but we can still choose to protect them.

The Wake County Animal Center needs help now. Let’s give them the resources they need to keep saving lives.
