North Bergen High School’s uniform policy has been in effect for as long as anyone I know has attended. I think it’s about time for a change, we, as an entire district, cannot keep living in the past with these policies anymore.

Now this raises a security concern, how do we recognize the students and the faculty alike? This would have been an issue if not for the reason that mandatory ID’s are already in place for all of the attending students and the teachers too. Students are regularly checked for their ID’s to be worn at all times around their necks and will be sent to the first floor if they do not have theirs to wear, they will then be supplied with a new ID and can go about their day. 

So after that, why are the uniforms still in place? The uniforms are a huge hindrance in the expression and artistic personality of the students. The students should be free to wear whatever outfits as long as the ID’s are mandatory and it’s reasonable to wear in a school setting. Instead of focusing so much on what students wear and if they are in uniform. 

I personally believe the uniform policy is an attack on free will and free speech, it suppresses the great minds possessed here in the North Bergen District and the majority of people would like to see a change, students and faculty alike. And I think it’s time we make a change for the better and the future of the North Bergen School District.
