We need unity. We must let the people in power know that WE ARE BOSTON!
The Issue
We are asking you to sign this petition because Boston's political and activist landscape stands in disarray as highlighted by the Covid-19 Pandemic and multiple injustices across the country such as the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Elijah Mcclain, and sadly many more. We watched as our DA Rachel Rollins stood up for black lives by not prosecuting protestors but her actions were not matched by her peers. We saw the various protests that went on in Boston throughout the Summer but we have not seen adequate policy change to match the energy we had in the streets. This is why the Libertarian Party of Greater Boston and others are organizing both the "We Are Boston" rally and creating this petition.
The "We Are Boston" petition is a petition being organized primarily by the Libertarian Party of Boston, in partnership with the Libertarian Association of Massachusetts. This is being organized to stand up and speak out against Boston's legacy of white supremacy, misrepresentation of Boston's many communities in city council and other political institutions, local Native American/ Native Indian suffering, and to promote liberty for all, among other issues in partnership with community organizations in Boston dedicated to doing the work.
We need to get these bad politicians and organizations out of power. We need Bostonians to join these conversations. We need Bostonians to acknowledge the power in their homes. We need you. These issues are ALL violations of our liberty, these issues ALL harm us. It's time for us to take a unified stand against the oppressors!
Our Demands:
1.) An end to state and city abuses of Boston's homeless and addicted populace. Specifically, those impacted by methadone mile abuses. Starting with cleaning the slate of local elected officials this coming cycle, opening Long Island by repairing the Long Island bridge for better rehabilitation programming,
2.) An official end to the bail bond system, incentives for arrests, and bringing forth police accountability. In doing so we are calling for #JusticeForBrendaJames, an end to qualified immunity, and a reallocation of taxpayer funds from policing operations to community-facing advocacy initiatives.
3.) An end to Boston's cooperation with ICE, specifically within its educational institutions.
4.) Acknowledging and addressing Boston's legacy of slavery, starting by changing the name of Fanueil Hall. Peter Faneuil was a slave trader, Faneuil Hall is a former slave trading post.
5.) We must foster greater financial equity in Massachusetts by reducing the number of occupational licenses. People should not need licenses to feed the homeless, people should not need licenses to sell eyelashes. It makes no sense that a hairdresser is forced to go through more training than a police officer.
6.) To the people and institutions of Boston, WE DEMAND that there be cooperation between ALL of us dedicated to change in Boston. There is no need for us to stand divided in such a small city due to drama and political favors.
