The Issue

As a dedicated member of the National University of Singapore Society (NUSS), I've always enjoyed the camaraderie, tranquility, and exclusivity that the club's sports facilities offer. Recently, news broke in the public media that guests from The Ridge NUS Campus Hotel with 185 rooms will be able to utilize our shared sports facilities.  Some NUSS members have voiced their concerns.

Overcrowding possibility could noticeably impact the quality of members' experience. The weekends, public holidays, mornings (before work) and evenings (after work), in particular, can see a significant rise in the number of users. This surge detracts from the exclusivity and comfort we signed up for and challenges the availability of facilities, making it increasingly difficult for members to enjoy and utilize the space fully.

NUSS sports facilities, be it the pool, tennis/squash/badminton courts, gym and soon a pickleball court, serve as a crucial part of our community, promoting wellness and offering a retreat from the stress of daily life in Singapore. They're not designed to accommodate a possible large influx of non-members, which results in overcrowded spaces, longer waiting times, and a diminished experience for those who hold memberships.

There could be a viable solution: enforce a policy that restricts access to the sports facilities to NUSS members only, especially during high-traffic periods. This would ensure that NUSS members get priority and maintain the intended experience of exclusivity and accessibility.

I believe it is critical to address this issue promptly before it undermines the value of our membership at NUSS. It's about preserving the integrity of our club and ensuring it continues to function as a dedicated space for its members.

Please sign this petition to support our community's call to ensure that our sports facilities remain a haven for its rightful members.
