The Issue

If you have ever been woken up by a motorcycle revving, you would know speed cameras are very important to how our traffic is regulated, but noise is not controlled as well. Noise reduction cameras are the solution, because they stop loud cars and bikes from getting too loud while downtown at night. Cars will rev and play loud music, which disrupts people's tasks, whether it be watching a movie, studying, or sleeping.

These new traffic cameras will diminish crime rates and stop rebarbative motorcycles from waking people up late at night and in the early morning. The hodgepodge of people who like to rev cars will have hefty fines or court appearances that they must turn up to. They would be placed near downtown, high-traffic residential areas such as Fauquier x Princess Anne, Fauquier x Caroline, William x College Ave, and Lafayette x Sunken. Cameras like this have been used before in Knoxville, Tennessee, and NYC. They use algorithms to find necessary vehicles (Emergency services, DOT) and illegal ones (Illegally modified motorcycles/cars). According to the Knoxville PD, penal code violations have gone down significantly, especially after the fines that were imposed.

Noise pollution in downtown areas is a large issue everywhere. Noise-reducing cameras work in other towns. If we were able to get these cameras in our area, it could help reduce the number of people with excessively loud cars downtown. If the rates of those small crimes go down, it can help with other crimes being reduced. Please sign our petition to help implement noise reduction cameras in downtown Fredericksburg.
