NO TO DATA CENTER IN CENTURY!
The Issue
There have been talks of a data center possibly coming to Century, Florida. We can NOT let this happen!
Data centers use fresh water for cooling, which means less fresh water for residents to drink, bathe, and cook with. We already know that the Town of Century faces challenges with the town's water for its own people, so why would anyone think that a data center using any of the available fresh water would be a good idea?
Chemical, sound, and light pollution are also huge reasons that we do NOT need a data center here. There have been reports that people have been able to hear the humming from miles away. The impacts on the wildlife will be terrible. We have many hunters and farmers in this area. A data center will negatively impact the local land and wildlife which in turn will negatively impact our residents.
The amount of energy required to power data centers is astronomical. It is projected that the energy usage of data centers will be approximately 12% of total energy consumption in the United States by 2028. That is the same percent as the whole state of Texas, which is the largest consumer of electricity in the United States. We cannot afford to have this strain on our local power sources.
Data centers are notorious for only employing less than 50 upon construction completion, many of whom are not even locals. Fixing the monetary issues in Century short-term in this way will have harmful effects long-term for everyone.
We must come together to oppose any data centers being built in Century. We have to protect our families, our neighbors, and our wildlife.
