NO to Changing the Name of the Davao City National High School
The Issue
(Hi All... Pls do not sign this petition anymore. Tapos na po ang issue. After the public hearing at the Davao City Council on Feb. 23, 2023 where there was overwhelming objection from the DCNHS alumni, students, faculty and other stakeholders, the Tionko heirs already agreed not to push thru with their petition to change the name of DCNHS to Tomas Tionko National High School. Mabuhay ang Davao City National High School!!!)

(Intro: The Davao City Council has publicly announced that the heirs of Tomas Tionko have petitioned to change the name of the Davao City National High School to Tomas Tionko National High School by virtue of their family’s donation 100 years ago of the land where the school stands)
-----------------------------------------------------------
We, the alumni and students of the Davao City National High School (DCNHS) express our firm objection to the proposal to officially change the school name to Tomas Tionko National High School (TTNHS) for the following reasons:
1. Even as we express our sincere appreciation to the Tionko family for their donation of the land where the school stands, we believe that the factors that led to the success of the school over the last 100 years are much more than just the said land;
2. Due to the school’s high level of success in educating the high school students of Davao City over the last century, it has now attained a high level of nationally-recognized brand as a school of excellence. Changing its name now will revert it to a school of low recognition to the detriment of the professional reputation of its alumni and put the new graduates at a disadvantage when they apply to study in universities for their college education.
3. The existence of the name “Davao City” in the school name is contributing significantly to the good reputation of the city in the field of education. Removing the name of the city will erase that hard-earned reputation.
4. Mr. Tomas Tionko had the nobility and humility not to ask for the school to be named after him in exchange for his generous deed of donation a century ago. That’s highly respectable and admirable of him. Let’s keep it that way.
NO TO CHANGING THE NAME OF THE DAVAO CITY NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL (DCNHS) TO TOMAS TIONKO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL (TTNHS) !!!
