Hello supporters,
Last Friday, August 26 Mayor Keller of Albuquerque, vetoed the moratorium voted on by six city counselors. This means it’s being sent back to the city Council and at the next meeting on September 7 the same six have to vote to overturn the mayors Veto. In the meantime the Bethlehem Baptist Church pastor did not appeal his application denial for the SOS location at his church but instead he made a new application. He made this new application three days before the mayor announced the veto of the moratorium. As of this day the pastor has never returned my calls or excepted the invitation for an interview.
I currently have one person on my team helping me research issues with the city Council and have created a Patreon page to cover my printing and ink costs. The West Mesa news website will be ready by the end of the week and the first monthly newsletter will be on the website. My newsletter’s purpose is to educate people on how to know what the City Council is doing and how to look up legislation they’re currently proposing, how to look up their spending and how to request records including departmental budgets. Many residents here in West Mesa are elderly and do not get on the Internet so the printing and ink will go to providing hardcopies for those individuals. I am doing all the research on my own time and designing editing and producing the website along with my husband. So far I have one person helping me with research but this is a collaborative effort and I’m looking to find others who would like to help me research. Please email me at juliabfong@gmail.com if you’re interested in helping. If you have no experience doing research on city legislation, I will show you exactly how to do this.
I have emailed our petition to the six city counselors in favor of the safe outdoor space moratorium as of last night. I plan to speak at the next city Council meeting on September 7. I encourage those of you who live in Albuquerque to sign up on the city of Albuquerque website to speak at the next meeting.
thank you to all of those in Albuquerque and all over the country for your support.
