No plea deals without truth

The Issue

We demand a simple, common-sense reform in the criminal justice system: no plea deals in violent felony cases should be accepted without full truth and accountability.

In cases involving murder, sexual assault, or other life-altering violent crimes, the accused should be required to:

- Publicly state their motive and how the crime was committed

- Reveal any critical missing information (e.g., location of the weapon, accomplices, or planning)

- Address the victims' families in court to acknowledge the harm done

This is not about revenge—it’s about human decency. Families deserve the truth. The public deserves transparency. And defendants seeking reduced punishment should offer more than silence in return.

This reform would cost nothing. It requires no new taxes, no new courts—just a conversation. It brings dignity to victims, closure to families, and restores faith in a justice system too often seen as indifferent to suffering.

In recent cases—including the University of Idaho murders—families have been denied real answers because of plea deals made before the full truth was ever spoken. That should never happen again.

We call on lawmakers, judges, prosecutors, and justice advocates to adopt this victim-centered standard.

If a person asks for leniency, they should first give the truth.
