We just received this invitation, today—on a Saturday!  (Someone’s working on our behalf so we can hear all information!  Isn’t it refreshing?)

Thank you for attending The Woodlands Township Board of Directors meeting on Thursday, October 18th. Your attendance and feedback on the proposed transportation improvements at Research Forest Drive and Grogan’s Mill Road is appreciated. The Woodlands Road Utility District #1 and Montgomery County are considering submitting a project application for the improvements to the 2018 Houston-Galveston Area Council Call for Projects. The Woodlands Township does not have jurisdiction over this project.

As discussed during the Board meeting, Township Board Chairman Gordy Bunch and Township Director Bruce Rieser have offered to host a meeting for concerned residents to meet with representatives for the project. On behalf of the directors, you are invited to attend a meeting on Tuesday, October 23rd at 7PM in Room 150/152 of The Woodlands Town Hall.

 We hope you can attend.

Information you may find useful from last Thursday night’s Township meeting:

1.     NEW traffic data submitted by The Woodlands Development Corp. and Brown and Gay Engineers.  (Chairman Bunch requested most up-to-date analyses to review for TH, 10/25, meeting.)

2.     The Woodlands (and Shenandoah) are almost completely built out.  From where would tens of thousands more cars come by 2040 (or even looking at 2022)?  No definitive answer given.

a.     Director Brown suggested we are a “cut-through” for people going to Magnolia (instead of using Hwy 105, Hwy 242, or FM 1488).  If the County’s desire is to extend greater mobility through to the very west end of MOCO, why does Research Forest reduce to only two lanes (westbound) after Shadowbend?

b.    Director Brown also suggested that approximately 90,000 cars will be traveling on Research Forest to FM 2978.  This is the only intersection of which we are aware undergoing this massive a transformation/being submitted to H-GAC.  If this figure is correct, why aren’t other intersections being improved?

3.     The people using our roads do NOT live  in The Woodlands/Shenandoah

a.     Commuters to/from work, outside The Woodlands.  This assessment makes sense when one considers why I-45 backs up.

b.    Commuters (again) possibly cutting through to Magnolia.

4.     Is it SIX or FOUR main lanes for the underpass?  WHO IS CORRECT?

a.     BGE study:  Shows six main lanes underpass; 4 frontage lanes = ten lanes total

b.    From this week:  BGE engineer, Township staff, and The Woodlands Villager mention only four main lanes

c.     From the 10/18 meeting:  Mr. Heineman states six main lanes.

5.     What, EXACTLY, is going to happen WHEN THE UNDERPASS FLOODS?  You might be surprised to learn that officials may allow the underpass to flood, on purpose--as a retention pond.  These details were discussed with Directors during the recess.  This underpass is absolutely expected to flood.  (This was reiterated during the recorded portion of the meeting.)

a.     It doesn’t flood, now.

b.    If we are going to discuss safety, we must be consistent.
