No Oakland, NJ Development Access from Page Drive
No Oakland, NJ Development Access from Page Drive
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents of Oakland, New Jersey, are against the Hovan Tract/Sand Pits development in general, but not affordable housing. The main point of this specific petition is to request that Bergen County judge upholds Borough of Oakland Ordinance 26-CODE-986, that excises any vehicle turning movement restrictions to and from Page Drive via Judith Lane from Block 301, Lot 2, and Block 3401, Lots 11, 12, 19, 40-43, 52, 53, 57 and 58 on the Borough’s tax assessment maps, except for emergency vehicles.
Borough of Oakland Ordinance 26-CODE-986 states that if this development gets built, that Judith Lane at the end of Page Drive will be gated and can only be used by emergency vehicles. The local streets cannot handle any share of the additional potential 1,400 vehicles per day generated by the development (according to the traffic study by Boswell Engineering) in this neighborhood. Close proximity to Indian Hills High School, Dogwood Hill Elementary School and Valley Middle School, combined with a lack of sidewalks in the area, will endanger our children walking to and from school. Additionally, if this access is left open, vehicles from the industrial park will cut through the development to avoid going through the already crowded center of town to get to Interstate 287 and Route 208.
Judith lane would have to be widened as well as the intersection of Judith Lane and Page Drive to accommodate the development traffic. There are homeowners who will lose portions of their properties along Judith Lane and Page Drive to make room for this.
If this unwanted development gets built, the only access should be via Thornton Road at the south side of the development. Oakland Borough Ordinance 26-CODE-986 must not be overturned because it will devastate the borough.
Thank you for your consideration.
