No more plutonium into space

Only way toward peace is non-nuclear. NASA acknowledges in its own Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the New Horizons mission that there is a 1 in 300 chance of an accident resulting in release of the plutonium. This could devastate central Florida, at minimum. Yet, NASA planned and launched 24 lbs of plutonium in a vehicle for Pluto in January, 2006. And it plans to use nuclear power as its ”thrust of choice” in the future, continue. NASA ought to heed the terrible risks pointed out by scientists, including many of its own, and instead, put its resources into the development of alternative, safe power sources. "...There's a beacon in the sky, meant to catch your eye...", sung by Happy Rhodes. Concentration on solar energy, no non-renewable energy resources and no nuclear, is what's needed. Alternative sources are practical, and require relatively little research and development before being ready for regular use. I urge NASA to abstain from the use of plutonium or other nuclear fuels in space.
