No more BIG SOLAR in Krum, TX

The Issue

The reason I am fighting so hard against yet another solar array "farm"is that it will take away the immense love and enjoyment I feel living here in rural Krum, TX USA. It will destroy God’s beauty and creation as we have known it and experienced it and turn into nothing more than serious attempts at virtue signaling, a product of hyped propaganda and a sign that some people’s pockets got nicely lined at our expense.

This will not lower our taxes, it will not lower our power bills...the only thing it will lower is our pride of ownership,  our property values  and potentially our health.

This monstrosity will not save the ozone layer nor lower our carbon footprint.

These solar panels equal serious mining efforts, slave labor, tons of fuel to transport them here from China and Taiwan.  Serious disposal issues at the end of their life because they cannot yet be recycled appropriately .  The solar panel industry is one of the most significant polluters of the world. The irony is these are produced at coal burning plants in China... how’s that for green??

They cause our power plants to have to regulate up and down which in turn doubles the C02 emissions. The grid can’t handle all that will come into it for the 5 hours a day the panels convert 33% of the sunlight that hits them into useable energy. This forces the up and down cycle of our power plants which in turn creates more C02 than if they ran steady.

The drip line from these panels will create channelized water flow with up to 8x the run off.

Hickory creek protected watershed is just right down the road here and this proposed solar farm will wrap around this area. The large tank this will border on 3 sides is Soil Conservation #7. The run off from this land finds it way all the way to Lake Lewisville and provides water to both Denton and Dallas.  This area is also a flood zone, and the road has to be shut down by the sheriff’s department when we get heavy rains out here.

What about EMR and EMF? The company wanting to build this here says it’s minimal. Any extra is too much!

What about our firefighters out here? Our small town firefighters will have to breath these toxic fumes, potentially have it on their skin and potentially have to suffer heart attacks due to toxic flames. toxic gases including sulfur dioxide, hydrogen fluoride, hydrogen cyanide and a small amount of volatile organic compounds are released when these PV systems burn. “Once a photovoltaic fire occurs, in addition to the high heat radiation generated by factors such as flashover – which may cause harm to firefighters and surrounding residents – the toxic gases generated by the combustion of photovoltaic panels cannot be ignored,”

June 5th a fire that began at California Valley Solar Ranch scorched 1,127 acres when a bird flew into a pair of wires creating an electric circuit and a shower of sparks creating 9 million in damages. That site uses photovoltaic panels just like this one plans to use.

What about the strong unopposed wind we have out here blowing the fumes from that fire and driving it further? What’s our answer to all of this?

Studies show Solar panels create 300 times more toxic waste per unit of energy than do nuclear power plants.

There are toxic chemicals used to make these panels and there is lead soldering in them as well. The installation of this “farm” would be as ugly to the untrained eye as the politics behind them is.  It doesn’t belong here and once it is here, it employees 5 people. That doesn’t sound worthy of a tax abatement to me, how about you guys?

They will use our own tax money to destroy our community and run back off to Asheville, NC while seeing a full return on their investment in 7 years and the only thanks the tax payers of Texas get is ta hooray for supporting a green new deal that is only a green $ deal to a very select few.

Pine Gate Renewables say they will not use herbicides on this land. They also told another community they would use aluminum type pylons to install their solar panels, but switched that up and used arsenic coated wood pylons instead contaminating their ground water and as a result face 10’s of millions of dollars in penalties for violating their permit. They are currently in a law suit on this one in Carver, Massachusetts.

I don’t trust them to do what they say. When a company offers you hush money and then offers to pay your power bill for a year, they don’t do so because what they are attempting is good, honest and just. They understand they are destroying our way of life and they want us to be happy with it.  It’s the equivalent of you’ll own nothing and be happy. To them I say...the hell I will!

Only 1/32 of the earths surface is useable farmland and these solar giants are eating that up thousands of acres at a time all across our great country; for their own gain while touting their green jargon hoping we will buy into it.

I am all for green solutions and their are many alternatives being created. There is a new solar panel being developed  that is 1”x1” square that will be just as effective as these large ones and take 1/100  of the space. What about hydrogen?  I love that idea. Let’s wait for these technologies!

Or if waiting is not an option, another great idea is to put them in the medians of our interstates, let’s put them on the tops of Home Depot and Hershey’s buildings. Let’s not allow these mega corporations to consume our farm land so our food has to be created in a petri dish. This is our life, this is our collective creation and it’s time we start standing up and loudly yelling NO!  Demanding the insanity stops here.

Will we all allow Krum, Texas to become nothing more than than one big solar array after another?
