**Subject:  accountability.   Demand for a Constitutional Amendment to Restore Public Trust and Reduce Corruption**

**We, the people, demand immediate action.**

In light of the chaos and division that currently plagues our political landscape, it is imperative that members of Congress pass a constitutional amendment before November 2026. This amendment seeks to restore the power of the individual citizen by reversing the detrimental effects of recent Supreme Court rulings, specifically Citizens United and Speechnow v. FEC, which have allowed corporations and special interest groups to wield unprecedented influence over our elections.

**Background:**
The rulings of Citizens United and Speechnow v. FEC struck down longstanding restrictions on campaign finance, enabling unlimited corporate spending in elections. This has resulted in a fusion of private wealth and political power that undermines democracy and erodes public trust in our institutions. The creation of Super PACs and the rise of dark money have led to a lack of transparency, allowing wealthy donors and organizations to influence political outcomes without accountability.

**Our Demands:**
1. **Elimination of Citizens United and Speechnow v. FEC**: Reinstate century-old campaign finance practices that limit the influence of money in politics.

2. **Enhanced Disclosure Requirements**: Mandatory reporting of all donations, including those from nonprofit organizations. No dark money should be allowed.

3. **Limitation on Contribution Amounts**: Establish clear limits on the amount that can be donated by individuals, corporations, and groups.

4. **Transparency in Lobbying**: Require that all meetings between lobbyists and elected officials occur during work hours in public offices, with discussions fully transcribed or videotaped and made available to the public.

5. **Citizen Involvement in District Mapping**: Create citizen panels, selected randomly by state, to handle redistricting based on census data every ten years, ensuring voters elect their representatives instead of politicians choosing their voters.

6. **Strengthened Oversight**: Equip the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and the IRS with the necessary resources to monitor compliance effectively, conduct audits, and enforce transparency requirements.
