The Borough of Chorley is under threat from Fracking companies, the following villages come under the 14th round of licenses granted to fracking companies:- Abbey Village, Withnell, Brinscall, Wheelton, White Coppice. Houghton, Brindle, Healey Nab, Rivington, all across the West Pennines and down to Buckshaw Village & over to Croston. Help us stop this! Please sign & share the petition which we will present to Chorley Councillors to declare the borough FRACK FREE.
We, the undersigned, are opposed to any applications of shale gas extraction or drilling (fracking) in the Borough of Chorley, Lancashire
We call on Chorley Council to:-
A) refuse to allow any applications for exploratory drilling or fracking on land it owns or controls.
B) As a planning authority, to ensure that any applications to carry out fracking operations in the Borough are subjected to vigorous scrutiny with regard to the possible effects on landscape, water and air quality.
C) To strongly oppose Government attempts to override local decision making of fracking applications.
By declaring the borough of Chorley free from fracking we will be leading the way to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
Fracking is not the answer to the UK’s energy challenges. It has been linked to water contamination, air pollution, earth tremors, health problems, decreasing house prices, climate change as well as hundreds of more lorry movements around fracking sites – and crucially, isn’t likely to bring down energy prices, nor create sustainable jobs.
Fracking is deeply unpopular and keeps us locked in to more fossil fuel use at exactly the time we need to be pursuing clean energy sources such as the sun, wind and waves which provide long term sustainable quality jobs for our communities as well as improving our environment for everyone both now and in the future.
