No Federal Troops in New Orleans—We’re a Community, Not a War Zone

No Federal Troops in New Orleans—We’re a Community, Not a War Zone
The Issue
President Trump is once again threatening to deploy federal troops—this time to New Orleans, in the name of fighting crime.
He says it will take “two weeks” to “straighten it out.” But New Orleans isn’t a battlefield, and our neighborhoods aren’t enemy territory.
Last month, the Trump administration sent National Guard and federal agents into Washington, D.C.
Now he’s setting his sights on New Orleans—without a request from our city officials, without a local mandate, and without accountability to the people who live here.
We’ve seen this before:
Troops in Los Angeles to police immigration protests
Threats to Baltimore, Chicago, and now New Orleans
Court rulings that these deployments violate federal law and overstep presidential authority.
New Orleans residents deserve investment, not intimidation.
We need better schools, stronger community policing, more job opportunities—not armed troops in our streets.
We are calling on:
- Mayor LaToya Cantrell and the New Orleans City Council to publicly oppose the deployment of federal troops
- Governor Jeff Landry to reject this as political theater, not public safety
- Trump to stop the deployment of federal troops.
Federal troops should not be used to score political points or suppress cities for partisan gain. Our communities are resilient, and our solutions must come from within—not at gunpoint.
