Dollar General is in the process of gaining approval to build a location on Williamston Road, north of Tractor Supply Company.

As residents of Williamston, MI and surrounding communities, our intent is to voice our community's concerns with a Dollar General being built in Williamston and the negative environmental and socio-economical impact its construction will have on our homes and local businesses. This is not just a personal concern but one that affects our entire community. The arrival of this chain store threatens to disrupt our local economy and tarnish the Williamston Road overlay that we take pride in.

Our town thrives on its small businesses which are at risk if this corporate giant moves in. According to data from the Institute for Local Self-Reliance, when a Dollar General store opens, sales at nearby small businesses decrease by 30% (Institute for Local Self-Reliance). This could lead to closures and job losses within our community.

Furthermore, we value the aesthetic appeal of our town. A large commercial building such as Dollar General would be an eyesore in contrast to the charming character that makes Williamston unique. Additionally, there is already an approved site plan for a Dollar Tree on Grand River next to Sunnyside.  

We must protect what makes us special - our local businesses and beautiful landscapes. We stand against Dollar General Corporation moving forward with this construction project . Please sign this petition if you stand with us against the establishment of Dollar General on Williamston Road.
