No Data Center in Pulaski County VA

No Data Center in Pulaski County VA
The Issue
Pulaski County officials decided that the best way to build the local economy was to bring a well known polluter to the area to try and build economic wealth. State and Federal regulations aren't addressing these issues, so it's up to locals who are heavily affected by these data centers to stand up and make a stand against something that they'll never see the benefits from.
Data Centers have multiple economic and environmental impacts on local regions, including massive energy consumption, leading to a strain on local infrastructure; as well as, increased pollution within the area. Data Centers are known to consume as much electricity as a town of 50,000 people, leading to potential power outages, and increased cost to the community, that would ultimately impact the pocketbook of people within the community. Not only would this create an effect on power supply, it would also affect local water, both in consumption, as well as pollution. A Data Center built in Pulaski County VA could potentially consume anywhere from 3-5 Million gallons of water per day. Alongside this usage, there's the potential for contamination of our water supply putting the environment and public health at risk. Not including the noise pollution, increased traffic, and loss of green space.
It is critical that we voice these concerns before any irreversible decisions are made for us. Our local leaders must understand the consequences a Data Center brings with it. We need transparency, including open discussions involving the entire community. Assess the environmental impacts and most importantly, have local community involved in the decision making process.
We request that our local government explores more sustainable alternatives to create growth within the count. To ensure that natural spaces are preserved and remain a place where humans and wildlife coexist. And most importantly, the opinion of our community is involved in the decision making process.
We urge you to join in raising your voice about this matter, ensuring the community's well being is the top priority.
Sign this petition to demand responsible deliberation and action from our counties leaders regarding the potential data center, securing a thriving future for us and future generations.
