The Issue

Due to what has been tagged as an "overstaffing issue" by PUSD District Leadership Team, our pioneering grades of 4th and 5th French Dual Immersion will be combined into a 36+ student class with one teacher. This class will feature at least 3 students with IEPs.

There is also rumor that a similar forced combination could be forced upon earlier grades as soon as NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.

This change will most impact the very families that worked so hard, through endless adversity and uncertainty, to bring this thriving DLIP program to life.

This also forces our Tosa and primary curriculum director, Pauline Rouat, to no longer serve the students of Altadena Arts Magnet, and serve exclusively at Elliot.

If this change does not effect your family at this point, a similar situation will in the future. Act now to let the district know that the DLIP families are united, passionate, and informed.

We have written and called the School Board and District Leadership team with these requests:

  1. Retain all current positions, keeping our 4th grade long term substitute while finishing the hiring process for Jules Bachelot and installing him as the 4th grade DLIP French teacher.
  2. Keep classes separate to ensure our program has stability for the future years. We need a 4th grade French teacher.
  3. Allow M. Rouat to continue as curriculum director for the entire program, middle and elementary.
