No Coffee Day, No Homelessness Tomorrow — A National Call to End Homelessness

No Coffee Day, No Homelessness Tomorrow — A National Call to End Homelessness
The issue
Almost three years ago, I was sleeping in a corner of the street near a bustling shopping center. I was homeless, invisible to most. The world moved quickly around me—until one moment, it didn’t.
A woman stopped. In the middle of the rush, she looked directly at me and said, “Will you be here in 30 minutes?” She left before I could respond properly, and I wasn’t sure if I’d see her again. But 30 minutes later, she returned. In her hands was a large Woolworths bag, filled with over $100 worth of food, snacks, and a small, fluffy light-blue blanket wrapped with a bow. She smiled, placed the bag beside me, and walked away.
I didn’t get her name. I wish I had. Her kindness touched me in a way I can’t describe. That day, I was wondering where I’d get my first meal. Her act of compassion carried me for two whole days—and gave me more than food. It gave me hope.
Today, I’m fortunate to have left homelessness behind. But thousands haven’t. Every night, more than 122,000 Australians go without shelter. Globally, in the richest nations on earth—including Australia and the United States—hundreds of thousands are living without dignity, safety, or a place to call home.
We cannot accept this as normal.
It’s time to act.
This petition calls for the launch of a national initiative: No Coffee Day, No Homelessness Tomorrow.
A simple but powerful campaign—where every Australian gives up just one coffee for a day, and donates the cost to help end homelessness.
Our goals:
• Fund large-scale housing projects to ensure safe, permanent shelter.
• Support wraparound services for mental health, employment, addiction recovery, and social reintegration.
• Create national awareness and shift how society sees and responds to homelessness.
• Work with government and private sectors to invest in long-term, sustainable solutions.
This isn’t about charity. It’s about justice—recognizing housing as a human right, not a privilege.
Please sign and share this petition.
Help us reach the leaders who can make this happen—starting with the Minister for Housing and the Prime Minister. Together, our voices can transform one act of kindness into a national movement.
Because no one deserves to sleep in a corner of a street.
