It is crucial to address school safety, but implementing clear backpacks is not the most effective or equitable solution. Instead, schools can focus on increasing mental health resources, implementing more comprehensive threat assessment protocols, and strengthening community partnerships. Now is the time to act and prioritize students' well-being, but it requires a thoughtful and nuanced approach that considers all stakeholders' needs and concerns.
