No Bail for Violent Child Abuse in Charlotte

No Bail for Violent Child Abuse in Charlotte
The Issue
A mother in Charlotte was arrested after her 8-year-old son was found naked and covered in welts, allegedly from being beaten with an extension cord. According to reports, the child ran from the home alone and crying for over an hour. He told police his mother, Porsha Shada Mack, had beaten him multiple times and had not even searched for him or called 911.
She was charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious injury. But she was released after posting bond.
This is not justice. And it is not safety.
In cases where children suffer violent physical abuse, there should be no quick return to freedom through bail. A child victim deserves protection, not the knowledge that their abuser is back home before the case has even gone to trial.
We are calling on Mecklenburg County judges, prosecutors, and lawmakers to implement a policy of no bail in cases of serious child abuse. Violent child abuse is not a mistake. It is a choice that causes lifelong trauma. And it should be treated with the same urgency as any other violent crime.
This child was failed once. Don’t let the system fail him again.
Sign now to demand bond reform in Mecklenburg County for cases involving serious, violent child abuse.
