In the past, even as the US tries to cope with the catastrophic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, Shell Oil began exploratory drilling in Alaskan waters on July 1. The north Alaskan coast is too fragile to be endangered this way. Shell's plans must be halted until we have fully investigated the current spill and developed a solid plan to prevent future spills. The White House and Congress must agree to postpone further Alaskan offshore drilling indefinitely. For, there must be no Alaskan offshore drilling; ever.
