Hi all u lovely people 💛
Evening Update – A Busy One, But an Important One
It’s been a very busy evening, and I wanted to give everyone a proper update:
We have now received written correspondence from the Minister of Health, Mike Nesbitt, following engagement from a local MLA. In that correspondence, the Minister acknowledges what so many of us already know — that there is currently no commissioned adult ADHD service in Northern Ireland, that access is inconsistent, and that waiting times are long.
That confirmation matters. It puts in writing what people across Northern Ireland are living with every day.
Following that, I responded directly to the Minister. In my reply, I acknowledged the correspondence — but I also made it clear that acknowledgement alone is not enough. I addressed the reality on the ground: the lack of an NHS pathway, the refusal of shared care, the financial and mental health impact on individuals and families, and the growing number of people who are coming together to push for change. I also copied in the appropriate oversight bodies to ensure accountability.
Today, I also received a formal written response from my GP practice manager, signed by all parties. That response confirms that shared care for ADHD medication is being refused as a matter of policy, while at the same time acknowledging the absence of adult ADHD services in Northern Ireland. In simple terms, it shows how people are being left with no viable route to care unless they can afford to pay privately.
Because of this, I have now formally escalated the issue to the Health & Social Care Board, providing them with the GP correspondence as evidence of how current policies are impacting people in real life.
This is not about blaming individual professionals.
This is about a system that is not working — and the people being harmed because of it.
Your continued support, messages, sharing, and signatures mean more than I can put into words. But we do need more voices. We need more signatures. This is not the end — we are going to keep going.
What happens next:
- We await a response from the Health & Social Care Board
- We continue to engage politically and publicly
- We keep building support and visibility
- We keep pushing for properly commissioned adult ADHD services and interim shared care solutions
Please keep sharing the petition, keep encouraging others to sign, and keep speaking up.
Change does not happen overnight — but it does happen when people refuse to back down.
✍️ Voices together matter.
✊ This fight continues.
