Petition Update: Response from the Minister of Health
We would like to update all supporters on recent correspondence regarding adult ADHD services in Northern Ireland.
A local MLA received a written response from the Minister of Health, Mike Nesbitt, in which the Department of Health formally acknowledges that there is no commissioned adult ADHD service in Northern Ireland.
The response also confirms inconsistent provision across Trusts, long waiting times, and unequal access to care.
This written acknowledgement is significant and validates the experiences of many adults who have been left without an NHS pathway.
Following this, I have written directly to the Minister to acknowledge receipt of this correspondence and to formally set out the ongoing concerns raised by this petition.
In my response, I highlighted the absence of interim solutions, the continued refusal of shared care, and the impact this has on mental health, financial stability, and equality of access.
I also made it clear that there is a growing and organised group of adults, families, and advocates across Northern Ireland who are actively engaged in calling for change, and that acknowledgement without action is no longer acceptable.
This petition will continue to call for:
- Commissioned adult ADHD services in NorthernIreland
- Interim shared care arrangements
- An end to postcode inequality
- Meaningful engagement with lived experience.
Thank you to everyone who has signed, shared, and supported this campaign so far. Your voices continue to matter, and this issue remains firmly on the agenda.
Please continue to share the petition and encourage others to add their signature. ✍️
