Oppose the Boston bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics and open up the decision making process to the public

Oppose the Boston bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics and open up the decision making process to the public

The Issue

As concerned citizens of the greater Boston area and Massachusetts we have looked at impact of the Olympic Games in other cities and we strongly believe:

• An Olympics in Boston would cost the city thousands of jobs and billions of dollars.

• Long-time residents would be thrown out of their homes to make way for distractions for the rich and powerful.

• Free speech would be hamstrung – the law would be used to silence protests and pressure shoppers into buying from big-business sponsors.

• The city and state would be left with vacant lots, sub-standard buildings, and billions of dollars more in debt.

• Ordinary people wouldn't even be able to afford tickets to the Games.

We call for:

• No Olympics in Boston – protect our community, our economy and our public services.

• Spend the money on things Bostonians need: affordable housing, schools, parks & public spaces, and infrastructure. No budget cuts for us, no tax breaks for big business & the super-rich!

• All elected officials should listen to people they represent! No more backroom meetings – all major financial & economic decisions should follow the New England tradition of grassroots democracy and open government.
