The Issue

I am creating this petition to advocate for a permanent change in the Greek Life community on NKU’s campus. I want to create a safe and better community for everyone. Sexual assault cannot continue to hurt the people in our community. It takes away people’s peace, their self worth, their friends, their confidence, and it harms them.
I stand with sexual assault survivors and I will always advocate for justice. I will no longer be silenced. Here is my story of what happened to me when I was a freshman at NKU. I went to a party and I was dancing, having fun with all my new floor mates. Eventually I found myself alone and the individual came up behind me and started dancing with me. I turned around to see who it was and when I saw it was him I was immediately uncomfortable. I tried to go find my friends but he locked his arms around mine so I couldn’t move. And then in the middle of the dance floor he forcibly kissed and touched me without my consent. Once I was able to wiggle out of his grasp I shoved him and ran to find my friends. No one followed or asked if I was okay. I later reported the incident to one of ATO’s leadership and they told me it was terrible. They told me they would do something about it but that never came. I am fed up with people getting away with this. I want to hold organizations accountable and their members to a higher standard. We all deserve to be able to get an education safely and to be involved in organizations with our best interests at heart. Please sign below to ask for change and implementations of guidelines on how to report members/remove members who should not be in the organization. Fraternities should also not be able to “blacklist” women and ban their members from communicating with them, since this is showing support of the abuser. They should also educate each member on sexual assault, campus resources to help, how to report it, and about student wellness services. I call you to stand with me for justice! Thank you.
