Please Help! I have a 04 Nissan Armada with a blown transmission. You can help me and others with these same issues. I’m asking you to please sign my petition so that maybe Nissan will listen and stand by their product.
The Issue
Currently there is a recall on all Nissan trucks from 2005 through 2010. Do to faulty radiators; which causes, transmission and coolant fluids to mix together. Unfortunately, my 04 Nissan truck doesn’t fall under this recall but, has the same issue as the recall and falls within the miles of it. Here is a link with more info. on this matter http://www.nissanproblems.com/trends/coolant-leaks-destroy-transmission/
My 2004 Nissan Armada broke down with my 12 year old child in the car. If I had been on the highway this could have resulted in a car pileup or worse. My Nissan Armada like those other vehicles had the same issue with their transmission fluid mixing together and causes their vehicle to overheat and shut down on the spot or transmission start to slip. This was a class action law suit that was put into play back in 2012. Also, my Nissan had about the same miles on it has the lawsuit state to be covered.
My SUV was just going on 80K miles when the transmission fluid mixed with my antifreeze unknown to me as I was driving. I researched this issue and to only find all kinds of things issues and other recalls about Nissan trucks and stating they are lemons. Before this happened, I was thinking, Finally, I paid my SUV off. (Just over 24,000.00 for it) When I contacted Nissan, refused to help me and some of them even told me they didn't know about the law suit. For some reason they only issued the law suit for 2005 to the 2010 all trucks and SUV’s. When My SUV clearly had the same issue! The Nissan dealer denied me the repair. I was forced to rebuild my transmission for 5,000.00 dollars out of pocket and it broke again not even 6 months later with the same issue. Do to it still having fluid contamination. Then the place where I fixed it at (Rob’s transmissions in Warwick RI) said it was not their fault. Furthermore, they would not warrantee it under their warranty; which, they had provided for1 year. I had Firestone in Seekonk Ma. Flush out the transmission after instructed by Rob’s transmission. Rob’s transmission stated Firestone mixed my fluids again on me because it was showing signs of being mixed again. This could have been resolved the first time around if only Nissan would have stepped up. Now Rob’s wants other 5,000.00 to fix it again. My SUV is not even worth 9,000.00 right now. Plus I had to get a car lease that I can't afford for $359.00 a month Plus I'm still trying to pay for the insurance on the SUV even though I can’t drive it.
I feel I've been wronged, and that Nissan should have replaced my transmission for me when I contacted them with my safety issue. My Nissan is a well maintained vehicle. I keep all my records of maintenance. Now I am strapped for money. I’m currently working 2 jobs trying to make ends meet. I’m a singleparent simply trying my best.
Please help me and others by signing this petition to get Nissan’s vehicles fixed and to be a safe to drive. Nissan is still not willing to help me even after the petition. So lets keep my head up. Please help by signing!! Thank you!

Class Action Lawsuit: A Victory! Well, Sort of…
In October 2012 a class-action lawsuit was settled, providing a bit of relief to some owners who have had this problem. As a result of the settlement, Nissan agreed to:
- Up to 8 years/80,000 miles, whichever comes first, extended warranty coverage applies with no customer co-pay.
- After 8 years/80,000 miles, whichever comes first, up to 9 years/90,000 miles, whichever comes first, extended warranty coverage applies with customer co-pay in the amount of $2,500.
- After 9 years/90,000 miles, whichever comes first, up to 10 years/100,000 miles, whichever comes first, extended warranty coverage applies with customer co-pay in the amount of $3,000.
Why The Settlement is Nothing to Get Excited About
According to our data the average mileage at which this problem occurs is roughly 95,000 miles and the average repair bill is $3,800. In that instance, Nissan is offering to pay $800 for your trouble. The other $3,000? That’s on you. So, horray for the settlement?
And for anyone with more than 100,000 miles? Nissan says: too bad, so sorry, have a nice day. How about those who are just hearing about the class-action lawsuit for the first time? You’re out of luck too, the deadline to file a claim has passed.
“I always liked Nissan, and love my 2005 Pathfinder. Until coolant leaked into the transmission. I looked up online and saw all of the complaints on carcomplaints… Saw there was a class action suit which I do not qualify for since the time has passed. Called Nissan, they said since I’m over 100,000 miles I’m SOL. Cannot believe Nissan would treat loyal customers this way. Even with the warranty it only covers 800 dollars…and the other 3–4 thousand is on you. My family and I have bought 5 Nissans from the same dealer. Never again will we purchase a Nissan!!!” – 2005 Pathfinder owner
All in all, this is a raw deal for consumers. Chris Jensen covered this story in an in-depth “Wheels” New York Times article on August 24, 2011.
The Warning Signs of Transmission Failure
Some articles online claim that being aware of the proper warning signs may help prevent your Nissan from needing a rebuilt transmission. These warning signs are:
- Heavy Vibration While Shifting
- Heavy Vibration While Accelerating
- Abrupt Stalling
- Shuddering Noises
- Car Doesn’t Warm Up When Sitting
Owners who have had their radiator crack are claiming that even if you catch it early, your transmission is still doomed trouble due to this engineering / manufacturing defect. You can read their stories over at CarComplaints.com for the three Nissan models that are showing the defect:
Perhaps even more troubling is owners who have already had their transmissions “repaired” by an authorized Nissan dealer are still reporting catastrophic transmission failure. Through no fault of their own, Nissan owners who are out of warranty are left to cover the hefty repair bill, which can be over $4,500 when all is said and done.
