Birdo is a Super Mario character who appeared in Super Mario Bros. 2 as an original boss. This is her only main appearance, though she got some short scenes in some Paper Mario and Mario RPG games, but always as a NPC.

Birdo is the only character that got overshadowed by her « tandem ». In the Mario universe, every main characters have their « secondary version », characters who used these main characters as their existence basis : Mario got Luigi, Peach got Daisy, Wario got Waluigi and Birdo got Yoshi. But while Mario, Peach and Wario are constantly under the spotlight, Birdo has been replaced by Yoshi in Nintendo’s heart.
Birdo is seen and used by Nintendo as a sort of filler while unlike characters like Toadette or Waluigi she hasn’t ben created to fill a blank in a spinoff.

We are never certain of Birdo’s presence in the spinoffs which is not normal because again she has an important origin and is an original character. For example she has been excluded from Mario Kart 8 and its Switch version while characters like Dry Bones, Metal Mario or Cat Peach have been favored or added via DLC.
Birdo could be an easy addition in Yoshi games like the Woolly World and Crafted World games as the player 2. This is a missed opportunity.

We can also see Nintendo’s difficulties to know what to do with her because of the fact that they took a lot of time to give her a fixed gender. It confused a lot of people and didn’t help to make her lovable.
We can’t say that Birdo has a lot of fans, but we can’t say she doesn’t have a fanbase either, because it is not true. And it is not while ignoring her that Nintendo will allow her to get more recognition.

So this is what this petition asks : Make Birdo a totally recurrent character in Mario spinoffs and add her in Yoshi games in which we can have a player 2.
